DEEP CUTS OR SEVERED FINGER

  1. Apply direct pressure: Use a clean cloth, gauze, or bandage to apply firm pressure directly on the wound.

  2. Elevate the limb: Raise the injured limb above heart level to help reduce bleeding.

  3. If the pressure pad soaks through: Do not remove it, add more pads on top.

  4. Gently clean the severed part: Use clean water or sterile saline if available.

  5. Wrap the severed part: Moisten gauze or a clean cloth, wrap it around the severed part, and place it in a clean, dry, watertight bag.

  6. Cool the bag: Place the bag in a container of ice water, but ensure the severed part does not directly contact the ice.

  7. Transport the injured person and the severed part to the hospital immediately: This is crucial for the best chance of successful reattachment or treatment. See list of Hospitals and Emergency Medical Centres below.

  8. Inform the medical staff about the injury and the condition of the severed part: They will need to know how it was handled.
