SEMAC NEwS NOV - DEC 2025

Summary of the General Meeting December 2 2025, at the Dingley Community Centre

Welcome

Chair Petro Georgiou welcomed the 11 attending members.

  • The minutes from the previous meeting (October 7, 2025) were accepted as a correct record.

  • There was no business arising from the previous minutes.

  • The next General Meeting will be held on February 3, 2026, at 7:30 PM.

President's Report

President Petro Georgiou reported on the club's activities and field condition:

  • Weather and Field: Appalling Spring weather has limited flying, but the resulting good rainfall means no need for watering. The field is looking great, thanks to the maintenance team.

  • Pits Area: Synthetic turf in the pits has been replaced, and new turf has been laid in an alternate location for large petrol plane flyers.

  • Charging Station: The new charging station installation is complete, tested, and functioning. Members are reminded of the 10 Amp limit and are encouraged to use LiPo charge bags while charging.

  • Donations: Thanks were given to Phil G for the donation of solar panels and the offer of a 20' x 10' Atco-type shed for winter shelter (logistics for removal and transport are pending).

  • Fundraising: The committee continues to collect can money, which is an important fundraising activity.

  • Sunday BBQ: The Sunday BBQ will now be self-supporting, with a nominal charge to cover costs.

  • Conduct: Members were once again implored to uphold acceptable behavioral standards.

Secretary's Report

Secretary David Wheeler reported on correspondence and committee work:

  • Committee Meetings: The Committee met twice in person since the last General Meeting to discuss the charging station, shed, finances/budgets, expenditure controls, member behavior, and the Christmas party.

  • Correspondence In:

    • VMAA/MAAA Amalgamation: VMAA has proposed an amalgamation of state bodies with the MAAA (one national body). This significant proposal, which affects state fields and VMAA funds, requires a vote in favor from ALL clubs to proceed. Further details will be shared.

    • Alcohol Ban: An email was received objecting to the overturning of the alcohol ban, suggesting the rules should be updated to reflect the new reality.

  • Meeting Venue: 2026 hall hire forms have been completed for the current rooms (room 6 for GM and room 5 for committee). Enquiries to move the General Meeting back to the larger hall were unsuccessful for Tuesday nights.

Treasurer's Report (Presented by David W in Rod Clipstone's absence)

  • Expenditure: Expenses for October were $240 (field maintenance) and November were $1040 (charging station). Further invoices for the charging station are expected in December.

  • Balance: The current bank balance is available on request.

  • Membership: Current membership stands at 43 Senior Members, 1 Junior, and 5 Associates.

Other Items of Note

  • Meeting Venue: Members suggested enquiring about the availability of the large hall on an alternative night (e.g., a Thursday) for General Meetings. Action: David W will follow up on availability.

  • Field Equipment: A suggestion was made to apply for a grant for a small hobby farm utility tractor with a bucket and slasher attachments, as an alternative to the 'paddock bomb' utility vehicle the club is currently seeking (with limited funds).

  • Club Trainer: Geoff donated a high-wing trainer model, which was accepted by Eddie H for use as a club trainer. The model needs repair to its covering and engine work.

  • Raffle: No raffle was held, with prizes being held over for the Christmas BBQ. Special thanks to XC RC for donating a park flyer for the Christmas raffle. Members are encouraged to support XC RC as a key local hobby shop.

  • Supper: Pizza and soft drinks were enjoyed, with the $5 donation basically covering the cost.
